Massage
Below I explain some of the benefits of massage and how it can help. First I want to talk a little about my approach to massage. There are many different kind of massage therapies and sometimes it can be hard to choose the ‘right’ one. The most important thing is that you can discuss with your therapist what you are looking for and they can treat you accordingly.
As a result, I do not offer a one-size-fits-all treatment where I perform the same sequence over and over again. Instead, I listen to why you are here and what you are looking for. I have a range of techniques that I can use, as well as various levels of pressure to work through. In general, I would describe my style as slow, focused and firm.
Please look at what to expect to find out more about what a session involves.
Techniques
I work with a few different techniques, predominantly Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue and Sports & Remedial.
This allows me to offer a variety of treatments
general therapeutic relaxation
relieving stiff muscles, knots and tension
improving flexibility and range of movement
aiding prevention and recovery from injury
supporting fitness performance
I incorporate other techniques such as myofascial stripping, trigger point therapy, PNF stretching, NMT and muscle energy techniques.
Massage works with the body as a whole, helping multiple systems function more smoothly while encouraging deep relaxation.
• Skin & Sensory System: Massage stimulates the nerve endings in the skin, increasing circulation and helping the skin stay nourished and healthy. This sensory input also sends calming signals to the brain.
• Circulatory System: boosts blood flow throughout the body, helping oxygen and nutrients reach muscles and tissues more efficiently.
• Lymphatic & Immune System: by encouraging lymph movement, massage helps the body clear waste and supports immune function.
• Muscular and skeletal System: helps release tight, overworked muscles, improves flexibility, and reduces soreness. Relaxed muscles put less strain on joints, supporting better posture and mobility.
• Endocrine (Hormonal) System: Massage encourages the release of endorphins and other feel-good hormones while helping regulate stress hormones, supporting mood balance and emotional wellbeing.
• Respiratory System: Relaxing the muscles around the chest, shoulders, and back can help deepen breathing and make each breath feel easier and more natural.
Please note - If you are looking for help with specific injuries to ligaments, tendons or bones you might be better seeing a physiotherapist, chiropractor or osteopath. Please contact me if you want to talk this through.
